چکیده
In this paper, the importance and perspective for the digitally-assisted analog and RF circuits are discussed, especially related to wireless transceivers. Digital calibration techniques for compensating I/Q mismatch, IM2, and LO impairments in cellular, 2.4GHz WiFi, and 60GHz WiGig transceivers are introduced with detailed analysis and circuit implementations. Future technology directions such as the shift from digitally-assisted analog circuit to digitally-designed analog circuit will also be discussed. key words: CMOS, wireless, reconfigurable, RF, analog, Digital assistance

Modeling and Simulation of Substrate Noise in Mixed-Signal Circuits Applied to a Special VCO
The mixed-signal circuits with both analog and digital blocks on a single chip have wide applications in communication and RF circuits. Integrating these two blocks can cause serious problems especially in applications requiring fast digital circuits and high performance analog blocks. Fast switching in digital blocks generates a noise which can be introduced to analog circuits by the common su...
متن کاملEvolutional Trend of Mixed Analog and Digital RF Circuits
This paper describes recent technology trend of mixed analog digital RF circuits. With the progress of CMOS technology, largescale digital signal process and control function can be integrated in an RF integrated circuit and some analog signal process blocks can be translated to digital signal processing units. At the same time, the design of remaining analog functional blocks becomes very hard...
متن کاملDigitally Controlled Oscillator (DCO)-Based Architecture for RF Frequency Synthesis in a Deep-Submicrometer CMOS Process
A novel digitally controlled oscillator (DCO)-based architecture for frequency synthesis in wireless RF applications is proposed and demonstrated. It deliberately avoids any use of an analog tuning voltage control line. Fine frequency resolution is achieved through high-speed dithering. Other imperfections of analog circuits are compensated through digital means. The presented ideas enable the ...
متن کاملA CMOS Distributed Transversal Filter with Binary-Weighted Gain Cell Design
In this paper, we introduce binary-weighted digital control into the gain cell design of a distributed transversal filter (DTF) to demonstrate the benefits of digitally-assisted RF circuits. By effectively integrating a digital-to-analog converter (DAC) into the gain cell, the new design can improve gain cell’s linearity and hence DTF’s dynamic range. A 5-tap DTF prototype was designed and impl...
متن کاملAnalog Design in Thin Line-Width Technologies: Challenges and Design Strategies
The rapid progress of semiconductor technologies enables the integration of huge amount of transistors on the same chip but creates new problems for digital and analog designers. The very high speed of operation allows millimeterwave CMOS circuits but various limits challenge the analog designer that must find new solutions. Key limits are the intrinsic gain of MOS transistors, the gate leakage...
